Thanks for stepping into this ring Di. The discussion needs to keep going and get into how we can get past ageism. I believe this is the next ism to make inroads with and I hope we as Boomers can do our part to bridge the chasm and that those younger will do their part in reaching across the aisle as well.

Hey Di- I enjoyed this piece and thought of some work I did years ago that might be of interest

Don't know if you've heard about the research, but for 8 years I was the Communications consultant for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation's Health Network for Successful Midlife in America project that explored Physical Health, Psychological Well-being and Social Consciousness. It is referred to as MIDMAC on the MacArthur Foundation website. I was fortunate to work with some of the world's best medical doctors, academic psychologists and psychiatrists, demographers and sociologists in designing and piloting and finally implementing a large, comprehensive survey of Americans about these topics. The survey data are rich and I believe could be helpful to you as you continue with your work.. We released the final survey findings in January, 1998. A look at "midlife in America" around that time frame should result in your finding the information. The study resulted in several books

Best regards,

Jane Kidd
jbvkidd@aol.com

It is time to call ageism out into the open, and name it for what it is: just another form of prejudice.....
